Query Processing for Content Based Image Retrieval

In this paper, we investigated image retrievalbased on image content, Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR)and proposed a framework to characterize the image contentand similarity between the images. Our paper discusses theCBIR problem and the solution. Due to the enormous increase inimage database sizes, the need for the development of CBIRsystems arose. Firstly, this paper outlines feature extractionmethods for color and texture. The extracted features for eachimage in the database used as the basis for similarity betweenthe images. We built user interface based on Java, in which usercan easily select query image and view top ten retrieved imagesbased on decreasing order. We extended our approach to subimage retrieval also. Our results report that HSV based colorfeatures and contrast based texture features outperform thanRGB based features and results reported in the paper areconvincing.
