The aim of this study is to determine the tendency to mountaineering, according to the gender, groups and environmental factors. Sample of the study consist of 149 mountaineers participated in summer and winter basic mountaineering camps & summer and winter mountaineering development camps in Aegean district with random sampling in 2006-2007.An attitudinal scale with 18 items was used for collecting data. First of all, for the reliability evidence of scale Cronbach alpha was calculated. The results generated satisfactory evidence for the reliability of the scale. Cronbach alpha for the total scale was .88.Descriptive statistics and Chi-square test were conducted with the help of SPSS 15.0. Result shows that 68.7% of the samples were male and 31.3% of the participants were male. 45.8% of them were between the age of 21 and 26. Beside these, 80.2% of the participants graduated from university. When we look at the environmental variables, 75.6% of the participants were brought up in Metropolitans. Additionally 33.6% of the participants interested in Mountaineering between 1 - 3 years and 45.8% of the participants were motivated by pears to participate in mountaineering.As a conclusion; mountaineering is mostly interested by university graduates who lives in metropolitans and motivated by their friends.
