The relationship between biochemical parameters, interleukin-6 and ovarian morphology in polycystic ovary syndrome

Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate relationshipsbetween biochemical parameters and interleukin-6 according to the ovarian morphology in polycysticovary syndrome (PCOS).Materials and methods: Total of 85 patients with PCOSwere divided into three groups according to the ultrasonographicexamination of the ovaries; group 1 (with no polycysticimage at any of the ovaries, n=22), group 2 (withpolycystic image at only one ovary, n=41), and group 3(with polycystic image at both of the ovaries, n=22). Seruminterleukin 6 (IL-6), hormone levels, and homeostasismodel assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) weremeasured.Results: The mean serum IL-6 levels for groups 1, 2and 3 were 14.65 ± 6.18 pg/mL, 16.22 ± 6.55 pg/mL, and14:53 ± 7.32 pg/mL, respectively. There was no staticallydifference between three groups for serum IL-6 levels(p>0.05).
