ABSTRACT
Bitumenation process of radioactive waste entrapped on ion exchangers is one kind of treatment with these materials. The last step is the ion exchanger fixation technology at about 130° C and result is a bituminous product heated at this temperature. Under these conditions is occurred sedimentation of ion exchange resin particles in the bitumen matrix. The ion exchange resin particles sedimentation in bituminous matrices were monitored during laboratory experiments and pilot plants operating area. Bituminous matrixes were modified by polymer additives. At temperatures of 130° C and 100° C were evaluated changes of ion exchangers concentration at the top and at the bottom of cylindrical specimen tube. It is discussed the effect of parameters influencing the sedimentation rate of ion exchange resin particles in the bitumen matrix. The effect of polymer additives to the properties changes for reduction of particles sedimentation rate also was compared.
