Inflammation markers have been involved in the development and progression of atherosclerosis. The objective of the present study was to compare plasma concentration of E-selectin, VCAM-1, TNF-α, IL-6, CRP and Fibrinogen as inflammation markers for atherosclerosis in two groups of rabbits. 19 male New Zealand rabbits were divided into two groups: Group1: Was fed “conejarina” (commercial rabbit food) and vegetable; Group2: Eggs and “conejarina”. The experimental period lasted 11 weeks. Serum cholesterol and triglycerides determination was done by enzymatic methods, HDL-c and LDL-c by extraction and enzymatic determination, E-selectin, VCAM-1, TNF-α and IL-6 by ELISA, CRP and Fibrinogen by nefelometry prior the experiment, and in weeks 4, 8 and 11.
