Softening Misbehaviour of Nodes and Enforcing Cooperation in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

ABSTRACT
In Ad-Hoc Wireless network nodes have constraintsof resources like CPU cycles, memory, batterypower, software, because of which they are notalways willing or able to forward others data overthe network even if they have previously agreed todo so; also nodes owned by different entities can tryto harm the network. These kinds of misbehavior ofnodes can be categorized as broken, selfish andrational, overloaded or malicious. Misbehaviorincreases probability of dropping packets and routefailure, which decreases networks performancedrastically. We deal with misbehavior by proposingan approach (based on already existing GenerousTIT-FOR-TATE algorithm) for forwarding the datapackets of nodes, assuming nodes are self interestedand energy constrained. We modified the algorithmfor best of our use. Results shows that our approachlimits the effect of all kind of misbehavior to aparticular class of nodes (classified on the basisenergy) and rest of the network remain unaffected.Our approach also motivates nodes cooperate forreceiving better service from network. Our approachis standalone to handle above all kind ofmisbehavior and to for the motivation ofcooperation among nodes (that is no supports fromother).
