ABSTRACT
A simple, rapid, precise, accurate and highly specific spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of berberine in Unani Eye Drop Formulation. The absorption maximum was observed at 346 nm and Beer’s law was found to obey over the concentration range 0.01 to 0.10 mg/ml. The molar absorpitivity was found to be 1.28 x 104 moles-1 liter cm-1. Accuracy and reproducibility of the prepared method was statistically validated by recovery studies. The method is sensitive, reproducible and has been successfully applied in the determination of berberine in pharmaceutical products like Unani eye drop formulation. Besides this TLC Profile of Unani eye drop was also recorded, which showed the presence of Berberine, when compared with standard with Rf value 0.36 in different solvent systems.
