ABSTRACT
The aim of our study was to determine whether the5-HTT, DAT1 and DRD4 polymorphisms are relatedto the structure of temperamental traits postulated inthe Regulative Theory of Temperament. We recognizedfour structures, concerning potential for stimulationprocessing and its effectiveness: harmonized andnonharmonized structure of the temperament with highand low potential for stimulation processing. Alltemperamental traits were measured using the FormalCharacteristics of Behavior – Temperament Inventory(FCB-TI). The studied sample comprised 200 unrelatedfemales, aged 18 to 29. DNA of the subjects wasisolated from the buccal epithelial cells, while 5-HTT,DAT1 and DRD4 polymorphisms were genotypedusing PCR and electrophoresis. We have demonstratedthat the 5-HTT polymorphism is associated withharmonized structure of the temperament with highpotential for stimulation processing. The difference insimilarity to this profile of the temperament structurebetween S group (genotypes SS and SL) and L group(genotype LL) was statistically significant (F=7.68,df=1, p=0.006). The L group was found to be moresimilar to the harmonized structure of the temperamentin comparison to the S group. No significant associationwas observed for DAT1 and DRD4 polymorphisms. Dueto the preliminary nature of our findings, replication isnecessary.
