Synthesis and evaluation of analgesic & antibacterial activities of 1-Benzoyl 4-aryl-6-hydroxy-2-oxo-3, 4-dihydroquinazolin-2(H)-ones

The aim of the present study was to synthesis 1-benzoyl 4-aryl-6-hydroxy-2-oxo-3, 4-dihydroquinazolin-2(H)-ones and to evaluate the compounds foranalgesic and anti bacterial activities. The reaction of an aldehydes with excess equivalent of urea in ethanol affords Arylideno-bis-ureas (1) which oncondensation with p-aminophenol in acidic medium cyclised to 4-aryl-6-hydroxy-2-oxo-3,4-dihydroquinazolines (2). Reaction of (2) with benzoylchloridein 10% NaOH affords 1-benzoyl 4-aryl-6-hydroxy-2-oxo-3, 4-dihydroquinazolin-2(H)-one (3). The structures of these newly synthesized compounds arecharacterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR and mass spectroscopic studies. All the synthesized compounds were screened for their analgesic andantibacterial activities. Some of the compounds exhibited promising analgesic and antibacterial activities.
