ABSTRACT
Compounds reverse the action of strychnine has been shown to possess anxiolytic properties and so we synthesized succinimide mannich bases to study the CNSdepressant potential. Twelve Succinimide mannich bases have been synthesized and characterized by means of physical and spectroscopical methods. Thecompounds were screened for anticonvulsant activity in MES, MMS and strychnine-induced convulsions. Four compounds among the synthesized succinimidemannich bases were screened for anxiolytic and antipsychotic activity. The compounds were also screened for assessing general CNS behavior by means of GrossCNS behavior, Rota rod test for motor coordination; Pentobarbital induced hypnosis and locomotor activity. Few of the compounds have shown significantprotection against strychnine-induced convulsions and thus taken for CNS activity screening. The compounds have shown significant anxiolytic potential in theselected animal models.
