ABSTRACT
When stereotyped behavior is time consuming (taking more than an hour a day) or significantly interferes with the person’s health, social or occupational functioning, it is possible to be an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). In this review, it was aimed to define symptoms and treatments of OCD and to show the necessity of a multidisciplinary health professionals team. To sum up, the results emphasize advantages and disadvantages of a multidisciplinary approach (physicians, psychologists, nurses, pharmacists and others). Antidepressants that inhibit serotonin recapture and contribute to reducing obsessive and compulsive symptoms and promote patient’s participation in psychotherapy or antidepressants association, with different mechanisms of action, lowering drug doses, minimizing adverse effects and tolerance event.
