ABSTRACT
To achieve sustainable development, one must eliminate the modalities of unsustainable production and consumption, since the industrial contamination of soil and water is related to the process and volume of production, to the type of industry and to geographical location. Thus, care in the management of environmental risks and impacts is fundamental for organizations to operate within acceptable standards of environmental sustainability. This paper aims to use the method of fingerprinting, aided by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), as a tool for quality control inspections in soil samples from drainage basins in different regions of the state of São Paulo. The identification of soil samples, with analyses of sediments transported in suspension, will enable evaluating areas that can contribute positively to the control and management of waste through inferences about the polluting potential of sediments.
