Aim: This study evaluates the vitamin D status in the adult population living into the territory around Alessandria according to age, gender and some groups of diseasesResults: The adult population of Alessandria has a vitamin D mean value of 21.2 ng/mL, 25% with levels below 12 ng/mL, level useful for the prevention of vertebral and hip fractures according to the Guidelines of the Piedmont Region. Only 18% has an adequate level of vitamin D (30 ng/mL). Women have higher concentrations of men. There is also a significant difference between age groups: The elderly population (> 65 years) has lower values. Between groups of diseases investigated there is a significant differences.. In particular patients in dialysis have very low concentrations of vitamin D.Conclusion: As in the other Countries in Europe the population of Alessandria has a concentration of vitamin D insufficient, so it is strongly recommended for the population health a correct supplementation with drugs containing vitamin D3 o D2.
