ABSTRACT
Grid computing is the virtualization and pooling of IT resourcessuch as compute power, storage and network capacity, and so oninto a single set of shared services that can be provisioned ordistributed, and then redistributed as needed. Researchers integratethe mobile devices in the grid which results in Mobile Grid. Themobile agent paradigm has attracted many attentions recently but itis still not widely used. One of the barriers is the difficulty inprotecting an agent from failure because an agent is able to migrateover the network autonomously. An important technique thatspeeds up data access in Mobile Grid systems replicates the data inmultiple locations so that a user can access it from a site in hisvicinity. It has been shown that data replication not only reducesaccess costs, but also increases data availability in manyapplications. Replication of data from primary repositories to otherlocations can be an important optimization step to reduce thefrequency of remote data access. Fault tolerance is an importantproperty in Grid computing as the dependability of individual Gridresources may not be able to be guaranteed. The ReplicaSupporting Fault-Tolerance (RSFT) algorithm is formulated tosupport QoS-aware replica placement, balancing the load ofreplicas and to reduce the communication cost in mobile gridenvironment using bottom-up dynamic programming approach.Then, a resource selection algorithm is integrated with bottom-updynamic programming approach to support fault tolerance inmobile grid environment by considering the dynamiccharacteristics of mobile devices.
