Antioxidant activity and estimation of total phenolic content of Gyrocarpus asiaticus by colorimetry

The antioxidant potential of the methanolic extract of barks of Gyrocarpus asiaticus belonging to the family Hernandiaceae was assessed by using Hydrogenperoxide scavenging method and the total phenolic content was measured by using Folin-Ciocalteau (FC) by Singleton and Rossi using Gallic acid and Tannicacid as the calibration standard. Moreover, Gyrocarpus asiaticus bark extract showed strong reducing power and significant antioxidant activity. In theHydrogen peroxide scavenging assay, the IC50 value was found to be 12μg/ml. The total phenolic content was measured by Folin-Ciocalteau was found to be1.049% for gallic acid and 1.8976% for tannic acid respectively.
