ABSTRACT
Major vascular injuries represent the second most common cause of death in laparoscopic procedures after anesthesia-related complications. Failure to identify aortic or vena cava injury may have live-threatening consequences. The majority of injuries occur during insertion of the Veress needle and the first trocar. We report the case of an aortic and iliac lesions that occurred during laparoscopic salpingectomy. The incidence, pathophysiology, diagnosis, management and prevention of major vascular injuries in laparoscopic surgery are discussed.
