ABSTRACT
In this work a model is presented as an alternative way to solve the problem through defining the geometric specification in falling film evaporators. The model involves mass and energy balances in a general way for any sequence, and the heat transfer correlations for computing the heat transfer area. Thus, an optimal design is possible by considering the tube cost due the length and diameter, and the energy cost. The problem is formulated as MINLP to minimize the total cost by selecting an optimal diameter. The results show a successfully applicability of the approach based on the comparison with a real process.
