ABSTRACT
This article treats the urban environment quality and its influence in the population’s life’s quality. At first, it rescues the diverse ways that the Environment and the elements of the Nature had been historically treated, in the search of the improvement of populations’ welfare, or either, the quality of life, relating this boarding to the main urban currents inherent to each time. It appraises the environmental quality and quality of life in the present time, under the optic of environmental sustainability. At last, it treats on the real participation of the contemporary populations in the urban management, demonstrating as research based on the Environmental Perception, Interpretation and Representation can facilitate the detention of environmental problems, since this becomes related to the subjective measure quality of life. Thus, through Environmental Education programs directed to specific communities, it is possible to extend the responsibility of the populations in the urban management, aiming the environmental conservation.Key words: environmental quality; quality of life; environmental conservation.
