Assessment of shear bond strength of resin cement to zirconia ceramic with prior treatment of zirconia surface with primers

ABSTRACT
Aim of the study. To assess the shear bond strength of resin cement to zirconia with four different resin cements with prior treatment of zirconia surface with primers. Material and methods. Cuboidal zirconia sintered ceramic blocks were randomly assigned to 4 groups, each of 12 specimens. The specimens were sandblasted with 50 μm Al2O3. In each group the zirconia surface was treated with primers dedicated to respective resin cements. Resin cements were applied to the zirconia surface in a specific mould. The cylinder-shaped resin cements 3.0 mm high and 3.0 mm in diameter were mounted on specimens. Four brands of resin cements were used in this study: Panavia F 2.0 and Clearfil Ceramic Primer (Kuraray), Multilink Automix and Monobond Plus (Ivoclar Vivadent), ResiCem and AZ – Primer (Shofu), Duolink and Z – Prime Plus (Bisco). Finally the shear bond strength was evaluated. Results. The obtained results indicated the shear bond strength for each group: Panavia 18,55 ± 4.63 MPa, Multilink Automix 23.23 ± 2.28 MPa, ResiCem 26.59 ± 5.10 MPa, DuoLink 26.89 ± 4.01 MPa. Conclusions. The highest shear bond strength of resin cement to zirconia surface was obtained for resin cement DuoLink in combination with Z – Prime Plus (Bisco).
