ABSTRACT
Currently, the software Industry represents a very important economic activity for many countries and Colombia is among those countries, since it offers a great opportunity with multiple business sources. On the other hand, the software industry is incipient and immature (1) in Latin America, resulting in the lack of competitiveness which makes quality growth so difficult. In spite of this competitive disadvantage, the Colombian software industry increases continuously. This situation has motivated LIDIS group (Investigation Laboratory for development in software engineering) to focus its investigation on “processes to improve software” taking into account international referents CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) and ISO (International Organization for Standardization), and based on them, to build flexible models in agreement with the reality (the idiosyncratic characteristics of the country’s socio-economical context) of the newly emerging software enterprises.LIDIS made a characterization of the software enterprises in the technology parks network (specifically Parquesoft) in order to recognize the relevant aspects of this industry, to apply strategies from methods, methodologies, techniques, and tools that enhance the formulation and implementation of a model of improvement processes in the small businesses developing software.
