ABSTRACT
In dermatology acupuncture has been reported to be beneficial for the treatment of acne vulgaris, postherpetic neuralgia, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and urticaria. Several uncontrolled studies have suggested that acupuncture is an effective treatment for psoriasis. In cases where needle acupuncture is not possible, acupuncture-like transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a good alternative of reflexotherapy. Treatment based on the using of DiaDens(R) apparatus is easy way of TENS. There are many indications also for this method. A lack of controlled studies is the main drawback for the methods mentioned above. However, many experts published their positive experiences based on DiaDens(R) employment in this field, also in the treatment of psoriasis. On the other hand the Swedish study which was conducted as a controlled trial of acupuncture in psoriasis had no convincing effect. Incorporation of the TENS treatments into the therapeutic armamentarium of the psoriasis and other skin diseases cannot be recommended until they are shown to be effective, safe, and affordable based on the Evidence Based Medicine studies. Conclusion: This review paper about the DiaDens(R) therapy is the first information in Polish about this new method of reflexotherapy.
