ABSTRACT
Obesity has become a major health problem in the industrialised world, with a global prevalence of20% estimated and accounting for 2-7% of total health care costs. Obesity has also a major impact onpregnancy outcomes, with increased risks of gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia,fetal macrossomia, caesarean section and perinatal death being reported. This review focuses on availableevidences regarding the effect of maternal obesity on obstetrical and perinatal outcomes.
