Effectiveness of Instruction based on the 5E Teaching Model on Students’ Conceptual Understanding about Gas Pressure

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of the developed instructional material based on 5E teaching model enriched with various teaching methods and techniques on the students’ conceptual understanding about gas pressure concept. The sample of this study consisted of forty eight primary eighth grade students (experiment group, N=25; control group, N=23). Quasi-experimental research design was used in this study. Teaching material based on 5E teaching model enriched with various teaching methods and techniques were used with the experiment group. For the control group the existing teaching materials were used. Two-tier concept questions were used as the data collection tool. The data were coded according to categories created by Şahin (2010) and analyzed statistically in using Mann Whithnet U and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test techniques. The results show that the instructional material prepared for this study has actualized the differentiation in the conceptual structure as desired which is convenient to scientific information and provided a permanent differentiation in students’ minds.
