ABSTRACT
The objective of the present text is to approximate the concepts of care-family-assistance to the report on the practice of home visits (HV) experienced in a program of assistance of a center for information and assistance on intoxication. A bibliographical and documental study was accomplished, in three stages: 1) literature review; 2) description of methodology and of strategies of actions appointed by the program of Home Visit to the Intoxicated Individual - PROVIDI, using as sources of data the Operational Method of Home Visits and the HV records of the visitor teams from the Nursing and Mental Health areas; and 3) consolidation of the information, through the reflection on the existence of home assistance to families with a member undergoing intoxication. It was noticed the importance of the PROVIDI when promoting the organization on the working process of the visitor groups, the incorporation of technical-scientific knowledge for the participating university students and the approximation of the concepts of family care to the assistance on intoxication and the family health.
