ABSTRACT
This paper aims to analyze two short stories by Edward Morgan Forster in terms of how identity, and in particular sexual identity, is disguised and/or hidden due to social conventions. The main characters, British young men on their way to or already living in the East, are unable to accept and express their innermost Self and resort to death as the only means of living a full and true life.
