Lithuanian sector of energetics is one of the mostimportant in the country according to its significance, the number of employees (approximately 14 % of industrialworkers), the total value of the lasting property ofenergy enterprises (about 25% of all the profit of thecountry) and the expenditures allocated for the purchaseof the energy resources. Energetics embraces theclosely related energy sectors (electric power, centralizedheat supply, oil, natural gas, coal and local fuel, and renewable energy sources), that comprises thewhole of enterprises and facilities for the production, transformation, transfer, distribution and utilization ofvarious energy resources. The extensive energy sectororiented to the great, ineffective use of electric powerand oil products, and rather significant export has beeninherited from the past. It does not comply with themodern requirements with its main characteristics (effectiveness, management principles, structure, etc.).Thus the primary attention of the state policy recentlyhas been given to the reorganization and privatizationof the energy sector and the implementation of the directivesof the European Union (the EU).
