ABSTRACT
A key problem involved in the aquaculture of pintado is the production of fingerlings on a commercial scale. Here we evaluate the effects of two food treatments on pintado post-larval growth. In the first treatment (two replicates), fish were offered a mixture of zooplankton and dried blood and in the second (two replicates) a mixture of zooplankton, dried blood and meat. A total of 4000 larvae were used. Water pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen and conductivity were measured daily. No significant difference was found in the final size of post-larvae between treatments (p> 0.05). The survival rate with treatment 1 was higher (6,5%) that that observed with treatment 2 (3.2%). All physical-chemical parameters remained within acceptable levels, with averages of 6.86 ± 0.54 for pH, 27.31 ± 0.72 C for temperature, 2.6 ± 0.85 mg.L-1 for dissolved oxygen and 20 ± 1.2 µS.cm-1 for conductivity. New experiments are recommended which take into account experimental location and consider the most homogeneous size during growth.
