Lípidos séricos, ácidos grasos, peroxidación lipídica y óxido nítrico en pacientes con Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2

Alterations of lipids, fatty acids, lipid peroxidation and nitric oxide levels (NO) has been associated to macro and micro vascular disease present in diabetes mellitus, reason why it was consider to make this investigation that had by to determinate the serum levels of lipids, fatty acids, lipid peroxidation and NO in type 2 diabetic patients. We studied 40 type 2 diabetic patients (American Diabetes Association) and 40 no diabetic patients previous informed consent, were determinate to both groups glucose, lipids (enzymaticcolorimetric), fatty acids (gas chromatography), lipid peroxidation (TBARs) and NO (enzymatic); to diabetics also it was determinate glycosylated hemoglobin and oral glucose tolerance test to the controls. We cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL-c were high in both groups; the HDL-c was diminished in both groups. The saturated fatty acids were high in diabetics and controls, representing 16:0 the one with higher appearance, 18:2t was in high concentrations in both groups; the found values of lipid peroxidation in the controls were significantly greater (p=0.0049).NO was increased significantly in the diabetics (p=0.0051). Diabetic patients with good glycemic control showed inferior values of triglycerides and nitric oxide than the ones with a bad glycemic control. Concludes alteration of lipid, fatty acids, lipid peroxidation and NO could lead to the emergence of metabolic syndrome and diabetes mellitus. The values of peroxidation and NO in patients with diabetes may be attributed to the fact that most of them were receiving treatment with amlodipine, drug which is postulate to inhibits oxidative stress and increases the availability of endothelial NO.
