ABSTRACT
This work focuses on the relationship between Freemasonry, republic and secularism established by the Catholic Press of Ceará in the first decades of the twentieth century, expressing conflicting ideas in the field and with repercussions on religious grounds. Noteworthy is the Catholic character of the complaint to the presence of Freemasons in republican regimes, also in countries such as Portugal, France and Mexico, as conspirators, prosecutors anticlericalism and governments or irreligious atheists. In counterface manifest themselves Freemasons and spiritual currents through the lay press in defense of secular principles and freedom of thought and religion.
