ABSTRACT
Incretins, which include GLP-1 and GIP, are a group of gastrointestinal hormones generally known to cause release of insulin from beta cells of the islets of Langerhans after an oral glucose challenge, before blood glucose levels become elevated. However, incretin release is controlled by a pleiotropic gene, which implies that it controls multiple phenotypic traits.
