ABSTRACT
Aim: This paper focuses on patient mutations between wards inside a general hospital by using structural analysis of social network. This type of approach is just being introduced in the field of health care and health management. Our aim was the analysis of the impact of the nature of differents cardiovascular pathologies on the relations between wards.Methods: Using 2006 medical records in our hospital, every tie of patient mutation between functional units was recorded, whether out- or in-ward and the exact number of mutations in the year are evaluated. The software “Pajek” was used for the graphical and numerical network analysis.Results: 3159 mutations give 207 ties between 20 wards. Network structures are very different for three pathologic domains: heart failure, stroke and myocardial infarction and we discuss the fact.Conclusion: This tool can be used to improve the analysis of coordination not only between wards inside a hospital but also between hospitals in a whole region or even a country as seen in the litterature.
