ABSTRACT
Objectives: The treatment with bisphosphonatesis established in controlling bone resorptionby inhibition of osteoclast action, due to osteoporosis, multiple myeloma, Paget’s disease and metastatic malignancy. The aim of this review is to present a number ofstudies, as they are reported in the recent literature, where bisphosphonates have been used with goodresults as primary or adjunctive treatment. The use of bisphosphonates therapy proved effectivefor selective cases of giant and eosinophilic cell osseouslesions, fibrous dysplasia, Gaucher’s disease, chronicrecurrent multifocal osteomyelitis, osteogenesis imperfect, orthopedic and dental implants. There are howevermany other intraosseous lesions where a decrease inbone resorption by bisphosphonates could be effectivefor the management of these bone lesions. Conclusions: Further investigations are needed todetermine the potential role of bisphosphonates forthe treatment of bone lesions
