ABSTRACT
This article was originally printed in the Ann ArborObserver, May 2010.They say you can’t judge a book by its cover. Whatabout when a book has no cover, or does not resemblea book at all? This is just one of the questions posedby the exhibit Open Book: An International Surveyof Experimental Books on view through June 15 atEMU’s University Gallery. Employing the very loosestof definitions, curators Leslie Atzmon and Ryan Molloyhave assembled a selection of twenty-eight worksthat explode conventional notions of the book byimaginatively re-visioning the printed word.
