OVARIAN DRILLING: A THERAPEUTIC OPTION IN INFERTILITY

ABSTRACT
Aim: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of laparoscopic ovarian drilling (LOD) carried out in our Department, as well as its impact on the promotion of fertility. Study Design, Population and Methods: Retrospective analysis of the clinical files of 53 patients, who were submitted to LOD between 2000 and 2006. The following parameters were evaluated to charecterise the population: age, body mass index (BMI), origin, gynecologic and obstetric history and hormonal profile. The sucess rate of the technique was evaluated according to obtained ovulation and pregnancy rates, as well as to the impact of surgery on clinical and laboratorial parameters. Results: Mean age of patients was 29.9 years. The majority of patients (90.6%) has primary infertility. Twenty couples (37.7%) had other associated infertility factors.
