ABSTRACT
Obesity is a chronic disease with an increasing prevalence worldwide, mostly in developed countries. The use of bariatic surgery is also on the rise, transforming it into a common procedure among women of fertile age. We present a review of the literature on obstetric and perinatal outcomes after bariatic surgery. This procedure is associated with an increased fertility rate and a reduction in the obstetrical complications associated with obesity. Pre-conceptional evaluation is mandatory, namely for nutritional orientation.
