ABSTRACT
About 25% of the Brazilian population have some kind of deficiency, among them 50% are mental. Brazilian situation isaggravated due to poverty conditions, misery, malnutrition, need of basic sanitation, disinformation, and precarious healthattendance. It is esteem that 350 million people with deficiency are excluded of any kind of medical attendance. For themaintenance of a person that carries a deficiency, 12,452 dollars are spent annually. On the other hand, “per capita” annual costof primary prevention is 20 dollars and of secondary prevention is 600 dollars. Thus, this study aimed to detect factors that may contribute with the improvement of preventive actions. One of these characteristics was that from all of 100 students under analysis, 52 had relatives with some kind ofmental, sensorial or additive deficiency. According to this index it is possible to conclude that people that have relatives withsome kind of deficiency also have great probabilities of generate children with deficiencies.
