ABSTRACT
Este artigo visa ao exame da representação de conflitos políticos e sociais no romance Shalimar, o equilibrista, de Salman Rushdie. Muito embora a espinha dorsal do romance seja uma vingança originada por uma decepção amorosa, os conflitos sociais que afetaram o Paquistão e a Índia formam o background onde se desenrola uma importante parte da ação e, de certa forma, reporta-se ao olhar crítico do autor sobre o terrorismo no mundo contemporâneo.This article aims at the exam of social and political conflicts representation in the novel Shalimar, the clown, by Salman Rushdie. Although the framework of the novel is a revenge derived from an affective disillusionment, the social conflicts that affected Pakistan and India comprise the background where an important part of the action takes place and, to some extent, refer to the author’s critical view of terrorism in the contemporary world.
